Celebrating an Incredible Season: RCV Skating Club Year-End Celebration
What a season it has been! This past weekend, the Racquet Club of Victoria Skating Club came together for our annual Year-End Celebration, and what a joyful afternoon it was. Skaters, families, and coaches gathered to look back on a season packed with personal bests, podium finishes, and the kind of growth that makes our coaches beam with pride.
From the first competition of the season to the final medal of the year, RCV skaters showed up, worked hard, and represented our club with class. Here's a look back at the highlights from a truly memorable year on the ice.
A Season of Standout Results
Victoria Day Competition – May 2025
We kicked off the season strong on home ice. Claire captured gold in Star 7, with Jayden and Lauren both earning silver in Star 7 events. Our dance teams led the way: Emma and Harrison took first in Juvenile Dance, with Claire and Isaac earning silver and Weiba and Peter taking bronze. Strong performances across the Star levels from Layla, Marianne, Marielle, Reginald, Oliver, Sophie, and Sabrina got our season off to a flying start, while Nathan and Ruby brought home medals in the Novice categories.
High Performance – June 2025
June earned a silver medal in Pre-Novice Men, a fantastic result heading into the summer training season.
Summer Skate & Wild Rose – August 2025
The summer competitions saw RCV skaters shining far and wide. Ruby won gold in Novice Ladies at Summer Skate and brought home bronze from Wild Rose. Jayden and Sera captured gold (Star 7 Men and Star 6 respectively), while Weiba and Peter continued their winning streak with first place in Pre-Juvenile Dance. Strong showings from Isaac, June, Marielle, Oliver, and Emma and Harrison rounded out a stellar summer.
Autumn Leaves – October 2025
The fall season opened with another wave of medals. Jayden, Katherine, and Weiba and Peter all claimed gold, with strong podium finishes from Isaac, Marielle, Nathan, Peter, Sophie, and Claire and Isaac.
Interclub – November 2025
What a day at Interclub! Twenty-two RCV skaters reached the podium, including gold medals for Jayden (Star 7 Men and Juvenile Men), Reginald (Pre-Juvenile Men), and Sabrina (Open Elements). Skaters at every Star level – from Hailey at Star 1 all the way up to Devin at Star 10 – brought home hardware. The depth of talent on display from Bill, Cecilia, Desmond, Harrison, Isaac, Lam, Lauren, Lorie, Michelle, Oliver, Peter, Sera, and Sophie was something to behold.
BC Sectionals – November 2025
Our skaters held their own at the provincial stage. Ruby captured the Sectional title in Novice Ladies, Nathan earned silver in Pre-Novice Men, Weiba and Peter took gold in Pre-Juvenile Dance, and Claire and Isaac added a bronze in Juvenile Dance. A huge moment for the club.
Skate Canada Trophy – Nova Scotia
A milestone moment for RCV: Ruby and Nathan earned the right to represent BC on the national stage at the Skate Canada Trophy in Nova Scotia — the national championship event for the Pre-Novice and Novice categories. Qualifying to compete at this level is one of the toughest achievements in Canadian figure skating, and to send two skaters across the country to compete with the best in their categories is a tremendous source of pride for the entire club. Ruby and Nathan, you did RCV proud — congratulations on an unforgettable accomplishment.
Vancouver Island Regionals – January 2026
Regionals was the biggest day of the year for RCV, with skaters earning podium finishes across virtually every category. Gold-medal performances from Anna, Chloe, Desmond, Evelyn (a stunning triple gold!), Isaac, Nathan, Peter, Reginald, Sabrina, and Weiba had the whole club cheering. With over thirty results on the podium, this was truly a team-wide achievement and a testament to the work being put in every day on the ice.
BC Games – February 2026
The season's crowning moment: Charles brought home gold in Pre-Novice Men at the BC Games – a tremendous accomplishment on one of the province's biggest stages. Congratulations, Charles!
Cheering on Our CanSkate Skaters
We also want to take a moment to celebrate every one of our CanSkate participants. Watching this group progress through the year — from their very first wobbles on the ice to confident glides, crossovers, and even their first jumps and spins — has been one of the absolute joys of the season. Every badge earned, every smile after a tough lesson, every brave try at something new is a win in our books.
CanSkate is where it all begins, and our coaches are so incredibly proud of how far each skater has come. More than anything, we hope every CanSkater walks away from this season with a real love for skating, a sense of accomplishment, and the excitement to come back and keep growing next year. You are the future of RCV, and we can't wait to see where the ice takes you.
More Than Medals
While the results above tell one story, every coach at RCV will tell you the bigger story is the one that doesn't show up on a podium: the first solid axel landed in practice, the routine that finally clicked, the nerves conquered before stepping onto competition ice, and the friendships built along the way. We watched skaters set goals, fall, get back up, and try again – and that's what we celebrated this past weekend.
Our coaches could not be prouder of the dedication, sportsmanship, and growth this group has shown all season long. To every skater who laced up at RCV this year: you should be incredibly proud of yourselves.
Thank You
A huge thank you to our coaching staff for their tireless work, to our volunteers and board members who keep the club running, and most of all to our skating families. Your early mornings, late nights, drives to competitions, and unwavering support are the foundation that makes seasons like this one possible.
Here's to a wonderful summer of training ahead – and to an even brighter season to come.
Go RCV!
