Congratulations to Racquet Club skater Sophie Knippel

Dance team Sophie Knippel and Matthew Doleman (from Wentworth Figure Skating Club in Hamilton) won the Bronze medal for all of Canada in Junior Dance at Senior Nationals in Halifax in January, 2007! Congratulations!

RCV Skater Achieves Amazing Milestone!

The RCV is very proud to announce that Mitchell Wallace passed his Senior Competitive test. This is an incredible milestone as Mitchell is one of only three skaters (along with RCV skater Larissa Rozeck in 2002) to achieve this test on Vancouver Island since 2002.

RCV Coach Deena Beacom states, " We are all so very proud of Mitchell. His focus and perserverance and big dreams have really paid off. We give him our congratulations!".

Way to go Mitchell!!!

Second in Canada!!! Congratulations to Allee Friend who competed at the National StarSkate Championships in Calgary!

Allee's first place finish in the Bronze Triathlon event at BC Pacific Skate bought her a ticket to the StarSkate nationals in Calgary, Alberta March 22-24, 2007. Allee made us proud by placing 2nd in her interpretive, 6th in skills and 10th in Freeskate.

Congratulations to April Turgeon who received the bronze medal in Bronze Triathlon at Pacific Skate. Kirsten Noel, Jillian Noel, Hanna Vincent and Ashley Sawchuk all represented the Racquet Club and the Vancouver Island Region with distinction at BC Pacific Skate in Dawson Creek. Well done!

Richard Gilbert Memorial Award

Congratulations to Pilar and Leonardo Maekawa who earned the Richard Gilbert Memorial Award for outstanding artistry in dance and pair in 2005. There is only one award for teams in all levels in dance or pairs in the BC/YT Section. Pilar and Leo were the youngest team ever to win this award. Way to go!

RCV Alumni Continues to Entertain The World!

The RCV is so excited and would like to send our best wishes to Aleasha Hoskins Asfar and Larissa Rozeck, who are now in Holland rehearsing for the European "Skating with the Stars". Aleasha works with some of our skaters teaching them Pilates as well as helps with our Canskate Program. Larissa is an RCV assistant coach who also works with the Canskate program. We wish you the best and look forward to seeing you both back at RCV in late December.

Good luck to Leanne Owens and Michele Lopeter who leave soon to perform in Mexico with "Magic on Ice". Michele is an executive member as well as a gold level skater at RCV. Leanne will not only be performing in the show but will also be helping with choreography and Performance Director duties. Way to go girls!!!

We are pleased and proud to catch up with our RCV alumni who are currently touring the world, performing and getting paid to do what they love.

Disney On Ice cast members:

Kirsten Hetherington has been touring with Disney on Ice for over 2 seasons now. She has had the opportunity to travel to Europe, South America, Puerto Rico and many other exciting and exotic places. Just home from Brazil, we are happy that Kirsten will be skating at RCV while she is on a tour break. Feel free to ask to see some of her exciting photos.

Amanda Malinowski, Nick Donaldson, Jowi Alexander and Jeremy Hileman are aking us proud by skating in Disney's newest show, High School Musical. RCV coach Marla Donaldson visited her son Nick in Florida recently for the opening of his show and she was amazed at the audiences reaction...she said it was like a concert on ice. Jowi and Jeremy will be home soon for a tour break so hopefully we will see them skating at RCV too! As well as touring, Amanda is completing her level 1 coaching certification and we look forward to her coming to work with our future stars when she is home.
